Grimes gives herself a nerdy new name with help from Elon Musk

The world is still reeling from the revelation that musician Grimes is dating Elon Musk, a member of a new generation of rich people who are so obscenely wealthy that they do stupid shit like make a “cyborg dragon” or a “satirical news site” instead of doing literally anything else (see also: Jeff Bezos, Russ Hanneman). We’re all dealing with it in our own way, whether that means installing a fun Chrome extension or completely ignoring it because there’s real stuff going on in the world these days, but it seems like Grimes is doing well at least.

As reported by The Verge, Grimes has decided to change her name—her real name, not her hacker alias/stage name—and Musk apparently helped her settle on the new moniker: c. In case it’s not clear, that’s a lower-case “c” in italics, better known to nerdos like Elon Musk as the symbol used to indicate the speed of light. Grimes, whose legal name is/was Claire Boucher, said on Twitter that the old name was, “the bane of my existence since I became sentient,” so this seems like the kind smarty-pants reference that both Grimes and Musk are equally excited about. Besides, The Verge says her friends already called her “C,” so Musk suggested she should just stick with this slight twist on that.

Anyway, has someone sent c this story about how Musk reportedly told his ex-wife that he was “the alpha in this relationship” and that she “read too much” for his liking? We’re just curious.
