HBO releases another teaser for Harry Potter, this time with warm colors

When the first teaser for HBO’s Harry Potter series came out back in March, we were among the commentators asking why Hogwarts looked so gray all of a sudden. Sure, it made sense for Harry’s life with the Dursleys to be somewhat muted so that he may burst, Wizard Of Oz style, into a world of color and adventure. But even the scenes at Hogwarts’ Great Hall and on the Quidditch Pitch looked pretty dull. Well, perhaps HBO is listening (except, of course, about the one big thing), because the new Harry Potter teaser is so notably more colorful that it overshadows the fact that John Lithgow’s Dumbledore finally gets some dialog. If you were wondering, he sounds like Lithgow, which is to say, plausibly British enough.

Also getting some prime screentime in the trailer is Paapa Essiedu’s Severus Snape, and some scenes of Harry and Ron at their herbology course (which was much more of a thing in the second entry in the series, The Chamber Of Secrets, than in this first Philosopher’s Stone chapter). But otherwise, it still looks a lot like the original film series, with some minor tweaks to costuming and styling and the placement of the Sorting Hat’s mouth. Except this time, J.K. Rowling is using her cash to promote “single sex” space in the United Kingdom, making the whole endeavor feel pretty bad. Anyway, Harry Potter arrives on Christmas. Watch the teaser below.
