Harvey Weinstein will turn himself in to authorities tomorrow

According to Deadline, disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein will surrender to the NYPD tomorrow, with sex crime and financial fraud-related charges expected to be filed at some point on Friday. This comes just a day after we reported that federal investigators had begun looking into the allegations against Weinstein, specifically whether or not he ever “lured or induced any women to travel across state lines for the purpose of committing a sex crime.” That was on top of the existing investigations at the local level from authorities in New York and Los Angeles.

The charges Weinstein is most likely facing tomorrow are probably based on allegations from Lucia Evans, who claimed that Weinstein forced her to perform sex acts in 2004—which does fall within New York’s statute of limitations, unlike a lot of the other claims against Weinstein. Interestingly, in its report yesterday about the federal investigation, The Wall Street Journal noted that the NYPD has believed for some time that it has enough evidence to arrest Weinstein but that the Manhattan District Attorney’s office had refused to give them the “green light.” Given the timing of all of this, it seems possible that the broadening of the federal investigation spurred the local authorities into moving forward.

This is all unconfirmed until it all actually happens, so we’ll just see how it goes tomorrow.
