Here's what's coming to (and leaving from) Netflix in August
Air-conditioning season continues at Netflix this August, with the streaming service continuing to stick to the multi-pronged approach that’s been driving the company’s aggressive growth (until recently, anyway). Those prongs include—but are not limited to, seriously, Netflix is crazy—international programming, like the Indian original horror series Ghoul (August 24), which put out a pretty awesome trailer earlier this month; the burgeoning phenomenon of the Netflix original rom-com, namely Like Father (August 3), starring Kristen Bell and Kelsey Grammer as father and daughter (!!); and, of course, lots and lots of comedy.
While we’re on the subject of Kristen Bell, August 28 sees the debut of The Good Place’s brilliant second season on Netflix, along with a new batch of stand-up specials under the banner of The Comedy Lineup (August 31) and Demetri Martin: The Overthinker (August 10), the offbeat comedian’s second special on the streaming service. And, of course, Matt Groening’s highly anticipated new series Disenchantment brings the Futurama vibes on August 17. And if you blow through the whole season and are still too high to get off the couch, August 17 also marks the debut of Pinky Malinky, a new animated series from Nickelodeon Studios summarized by Netflix as follows:
Pinky Malinky sees the bright side of everything, including being born a hot dog. With his BFFs in tow, this little wiener takes a bite out of life.
Of course, with new programming must come the purging of the old, and those who hate Steve Carell for some inexplicable reason will be pleased to learn that two of his movies, Seeking A Friend For The End Of The World and The 40-Year-Old Virgin, are both leaving Netflix on August 16.
The complete list of Netflix comings and goings for August is below this sizzle reel. Netflix originals are denoted with a single asterisk, while Netflix films are denoted with two.
