Here's what's coming to (and leaving from) Netflix in July

Following the success of Set It Up—which opened to a chorus of “actually kind of good??”s and “great for watching while eating ice cream in your sweatpants”s from critics last week—Netflix is expanding its slate of original rom-coms, touting releases through September in its monthly newsletter. None of them will debut in July, however, leaving fans of the genre to ask “will they or won’t they?” about Jerry Seinfeld and his guests on new episodes of Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee, which debuts July 6. (Spoiler: They won’t.)
As usual, much of July’s notable Netflix programming is in the comedy realm: Ian Karmel and Michelle Buteau are among the eight up-and-comers making their Netflix stand-up debuts with The Comedy Lineup, and Iliza Shlesinger and Jim Jeffries both debut new specials next month, along with a new batch of The Joel McHale Show With Joel McHale. There’s also an odd theme of prisons running through the month’s new programming, presumably to accompany season six of OG Netflix original Orange Is The New Black: There’s the second season of something called Inside The World’s Toughest Prisons, a docuseries called Drug Lords, and a batch of episodes of MSNBC’s Lockup: Extended Stay.
On a more comforting note, the appealingly dorky travel series Somebody Feed Phil drops a new season on July 6. (The more morbidly minded have to wait until July 20 for Dark Tourist, in which “journalist David Farrier visits unusual—and often macabre—tourism spots around the world.”) And, of course, there’s the nostalgic joy of watching dinosaurs wreak havoc in the trilogy of Jurassic Park, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, and Jurassic Park III—all debuting July 1—as well as a dinosaur gobbling up whatever the general services industry is in Cupcake & Dino – General Services, debuting July 20 and described thusly:
In this outrageous animated series, an ambitious cupcake and his friendly dinosaur brother try to rule the general services industry in the big city.
Sure, why not? The complete list of Netflix comings and goings for July is below this sizzle reel. Netflix originals are denoted with a single asterisk, while Netflix films are denoted with two.
