ABC sees more potential in High Potential and multiple 9-1-1s

Kaitlin Olson's offbeat procedural and two versions of 9-1-1 get renewal orders from ABC.

ABC sees more potential in High Potential and multiple 9-1-1s

ABC is sticking with what’s working for the upcoming season. After slapping a sixth-season renewal on Abbott Elementary earlier this week, the network has given a third season to High Potential, the offbeat procedural starring Kaitlin Olson. The series, which The A.V. Club has been onboard with for years, is a hit for the network, becoming one of ABC’s biggest hits in five years. In an era when streamers would love for us to keep believing that network TV is dying, High Potential‘s numbers have increased from season one, with the season two premiere being the most-watched premiere of ABC’s fall line-up. In the series, Olson stars as a cleaning lady with a knack for solving crimes. As a result, the cops hire her as a consultant to do their job for them.

Speaking of weird things for first responders to do on television, ABC is also aware that the lunacy of 9-1-1 is also a draw for viewers. Holding things down on the non-biopic end of Ryan Murphy’s television empire, the original 9-1-1 is getting a 10th season, opening the door for another Beenado to swarm LA. ABC also greenlit a second season for its latest offshoot, 9-1-1: Nashville (the one starring Chris O’Donnell).
