Hop Along goes acoustic in this stripped-down session

On this year’s excellent Painted Shut, Philadelphia‘s Hop Along broke out of its cities ever-growing music scene to become a national concern. Tomorrow, the band will kick off its tour supporting Modest Mouse that runs through the end of October. But, today, The A.V. Club has an exclusive look at a video captured during Hop Along’s intimate performance for 5 at 5, presented by Ace Hotel and Martin Guitar. The session finds the band stripped down to acoustic instruments and offering up altered versions of its songs in front of a small audience. This bare bones take of “I Saw My Twin” transforms the song’s explosive hook into something contemplative, allowing extra emphasis to be put on Frances Quinlan’s vocals, some of the best in rock music today.
