Industry to have one more go at financial malfeasance in season 5

HBO's latest sleeper hit has been renewed for a fifth and final season.

Industry to have one more go at financial malfeasance in season 5

The crazier our world seems to get, so gets Industry. This season had focused on a company of dubious funds, the UK government’s involvement with them, and shadowy figures extorting the visibly powerful with evidence of their sex crimes. Perhaps we’ll find out the outcome of these events in the world of Harper, Yasmin and all the rest around them when we find out the outcome of the parallel events in our world, as HBO has confirmed today that Industry will return for a fifth and final season after its fourth wraps up on Sunday.

“We’re privileged to have joined the small, esteemed club of dramas that have run for five seasons on HBO,” say creators Mickey Down and Konrad Kay. “For some time now we have been thinking about how best to end the show on an unparalleled high. Unlike some of our characters, we know when to leave a party,” the statement continues, though the duo didn’t offer any concrete direction for where next season might go. Add Jane Tranter of Bad Wolf Productions, “When we first pitched the idea for Industry to HBO, Casey and I believed this might be ‘the little engine that could.’ Over 10 years later, Industry has more than proven this to be true.”

That much is certainly true; the first season of Industry was among HBO’s lowest rated shows. The New Yorker reported in December that part of the reason it was renewed after the first season was because it was cheap to produce compared to Succession and The White Lotus. Though it still doesn’t pull in anything like Game Of Thrones numbers, viewership is up about 30% this season compared to last. Talk about a return on investment!
