Jack O'Connell and Guy Pearce gather all the mud that's fit to sling in Ink trailer

Danny Boyle's latest hits select theaters on December 11, and drops on Netflix on January 8.

Skip the coffee this morning and mainline this new trailer for Danny Boyle’s Ink, based on the Tony-nominated play of the same name by James Graham (who also adapts). The director is back in the true-life mode that produced films such as 127 Hours and Steve Jobs, this time plunging into the primordial muck that birthed the infamous British tabloid The Sun, with Jack O’Connell (Sinners) as the paper’s fresh-faced editor, Larry Lamb, and Guy Pearce (The Brutalist) as the media devil on his shoulder, Rupert Murdoch, who acquired The Sun in 1969.

Indeed, the pop-period finery typical of that era is couched in Trainspotting-style grit and grime, no doubt to evoke the sordid feeling of abandoning one’s principles for the most salacious headline and the easiest buck. And sitting on Lamb’s other shoulder is The Crown‘s Claire Foy as “Jules Davies,” a fictional composite of several reporters from this period in the paper’s life, who is seen shooting several unapproving, bespectacled looks O’Connell’s way.
