It’s “RoboCop Day” in Detroit as RoboCop statue prepares to be unveiled [UPDATED]
After a protracted struggle that pitted the citizens of Detroit against pernicious government officials trying to rob them of what little hope they had left, the Internet prevailed, and so that 10-foot-tall RoboCop statue is being unveiled in Detroit today. The statue is being installed, as planned, in Imagination Station, a public art space whose organizers masterminded the Kickstarter campaign to design it.
Those same organizers have declared today, June 3, 2014, to be “RoboCop Day” in Detroit and any other post-apocalyptic wasteland in need of a hero. Festivities will include RoboCop throwing out the first pitch at the Tigers vs. Blue Jays game tonight. Before that—in a final conciliatory gesture—the City of Detroit will provide an official police escort, as some dude in a RoboCop suit shows up to the statue to take pictures with the (probably mostly adult) kiddies. Here’s the full schedule of events, according to MLive:
12:00 PM: RoboCop and Detroit Police Department arrivals
12:10 PM: RoboCop presentation and statue announcement
