It’s the Fourth Of July weekend, but no Preacher takes Sunday off
Here’s what’s up in the world of TV for Sunday, July 3. All times are Eastern.
Top picks
Preacher (AMC, 9 p.m.): The retreat of HBO’s impeccable Game Of Thrones/Silicon Valley/Veep lineup, paired with the typical absence of new programming on a holiday weekend, means that there’s almost no regular coverage on tonight and practically nothing new on the air. But Jesse Custer, much as he may love America, loves his church more, and will be there to preach to whatever congregation braves the Devil’s fireworks and lake getaways. Preacher wins the Flesh And Bone Award For Lone Regular Coverage tonight as DeBlanc and Fiore explain just what entity’s set up shop inside Jesse’s earthly vessel. It’ll be a bittersweet reveal for Zack Handlen, who’s the one guy minding the store tonight and would much prefer to be out at a barbecue. Hopefully there won’t be a lot of Quincannon products featured to make him think about what he’s missing.
Shark Week: The Killing Games (Discovery, 9 p.m.): Shark Week may have reached its end, but if you thought your What’s On Tonight correspondent wasn’t going to make its last offering of 2016 a top pick, you don’t know us very well. In the final installment, the hunts of Isle Of Jaws continue as it’s revealed that the great white shark has learned the ability to come out of the water and grab seals from shore. In the most remarkable twist, one of the sharks is opened up to reveal a partially digested seal, and inside that seal is a partially digested hand! It must have been a loose seal.
Honeymoon From Hell (Lifetime, 9 p.m.): Yep, this is what it’s come to, What’s On Tonight readers—there’s so little on tonight that a Lifetime original movie that isn’t a lesbian vampire creation of James Franco’s makes its way into the top pick. But don’t rule out the undead’s involvement entirely, as newlyweds Julia and Rivers McCoy are trapped in a bed and breakfast during a hurricane and realize that they might also be sharing space with the ghost of Alice Flagg. According to legend, Alice is seeking the engagement ring she received from the man she was forbidden to marry, so this could turn into a scavenger hunt! Here’s hoping that Frodo kid didn’t grab it first.
