It took 29 years, but Licensed To Ill finally sold 10 million copies

Despite being broken up, down one member, and not having released a proper album in four years, The Beastie Boys are still exceptionally popular. The group’s 1986 album Licensed To Ill just obtained RIAA Diamond Status, meaning it has sold more than 10 million copies in the States alone. Widely considered the first hip-hop album to ever top the Billboard charts, Licensed joins precious few other albums on the Diamond list, including Eminem’s The Marshall Mathers LP, 2Pac’s All Eyez On Me, and ZZ Top’s Eliminator.

The best-selling album of all time is still Michael Jackson’s Thriller, which has sold between 29 and 65 million copies in the U.S. to date, depending on who you ask.
