James Cameron's Fantastic Voyage is "moving forward," says Avatar producer

Producer Rae Sanchini suggested that we may ultimately take a fantastic voyage before we return to Pandora.

James Cameron's Fantastic Voyage is

The James Cameron movie we’ve been hearing about since at least 2007 seems like it may finally be making some progress. In an interview with ScreenRant, Avatar: Fire And Ash executive producer and longtime Cameron associate Rae Sanchini suggested that a Cameron-produced Fantastic Voyage “could be” starting production and that it might arrive before Avatar 4, which is currently expected in 2029.

“[Fantastic Voyage has] been long in the works and we are moving forward and can’t announce anything, but we are in the works coming up in very early stages,” says Sanchini. “That’s been kind of a dream project of ours for some time. And then the Avatar films are a very long lead time process, so we’re going to have to get started on those pretty soon as well. And then Jim’s got another few things that he’s always kicking around. Sure. A lot of original ideas.”

Of course, Fantastic Voyage has been in early stages for quite some time. Back in 2010, we reported that Paul Greengrass, the project’s rumored director, had dipped to work on an adaptation of Treasure Island, which also seems to have never gone anywhere. Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy was also attached at one point, as was Will Smith. But Sanchini’s comments are in-line with some reporting from Deadline back in December, which suspected that the project could make progress “in a big way” in 2026.
