Jeff Tweedy is turning a box full of letters into a memoir

Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy is writing a “funny, disarming, and honest” book about his life, according to Rolling Stone. “I have stories to tell,” says Tweedy of the memoir, “and I’d like for this book to be a combination of those stories about my experiences, and maybe a window into one person’s creative process, as well as some of what I’ve seen working with other artists in my current and former bands, in the studio, on the road, in my basement with my sons, and more.”

Tweedy’s time in Wilco has been documented before, in print with Greg Kot’s Learning How To Die and on film in I Am Trying To Break Your Heart, which documented the making of the acclaimed album Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. Presumably the book will touch on the singer/songwriter’s days in Wilco and Uncle Tupelo as well as his battle with addiction, his wife Sue being diagnosed with cancer, and his tumultuous relationship with his former bandmate, the late Jay Bennett, who himself is the subject of an upcoming documentary.

According to Rolling Stone, Dutton—an arm of Penguin Random House—will publish the book after winning a bidding war that ended in a six-figure deal for Tweedy. There is no set release date for the book.
