Laurel And Hardy are getting a new cartoon, much to the delight of 70-year-olds everywhere
The cartoon business seems like it’s pretty tough these days. Kids only care about Minecraft and dubstep, and the cartoons that become big hits always get co-opted by people who still buy all of their clothes at Hot Topic. Gaumont Animation has come up with a plan to hook today’s children, though, and we don’t see any faults in it whatsoever: It has decided to remake the classic Laurel And Hardy cartoon from the ‘60s. The show was based on the antics of classic comedy duo Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy, and if you don’t know who they are, ask your parents…and then have them ask your grandparents.
Anyway, Gaumont is producing 78 new Laurel and Hardy cartoons, and they’ll be targeted at kids between five and eight. According to Deadline’s report, the new series will have “an updated look, design, and feel,” but it will retain the “slapstick humor that made this twosome world famous.” Hopefully, that means the show will introduce a weirdly complicated mythology like Adventure Time or Gravity Falls, because the best kids’ shows are made for adults anyway.
