The new documentary A Fat Wreck documents the rise of Fat Wreck Chords, the label run by NOFX frontman “Fat Mike” Burkett and his ex-wife Erin Burkett, and how the pair made it one of the most successful punk labels of the past 20 years. While A Fat Wreck features mini-profiles on some Fat‘s best known bands, this clip—premiering exclusively on The A.V. Club—tells the tale of how Fat Mike found punk rock all those years ago. In the clip, Fat Mike credits Joe Escalante of The Vandals fame as being his spiritual shepherd, leading him to dive headfirst into the scene that spoke to him.
