Marvel's Ghost Rider and Helstrom to spew fire all over Hulu next year
Hulu, who is faring better with its Marvel content than Netflix is these days, has ordered two new live-action shows from Stan Lee’s juggernaut to accompany its upcoming animated offerings. A far cry from the teenage adventures of Runaways, the new shows will fold fear into the action with Ghost Rider and Helstrom. Both are slated to debut in 2020.
Ghost Rider, which will be helmed by Justified and Sneaky Pete writer Ingrid Escajeda, sounds as if it will be an origin story, with Hulu saying it will follow antihero Robbie Reyes, who, after unleashing the Rider, “brings vengeance for the innocents he encounters, but struggles to control the power he wields.” TheWrap notes that the character will be different than the one played by Gabriel Luna on ABC’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D., though Variety confirms that Luna will still be reprising the role, though in a “completely new iteration” that is “in no way connected to Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. storyline.” But, you ask, what about Nicolas Cage? We are also asking that.
Helstrom, meanwhile, follows Daimon and Ana Helstrom, the children of a serial killer. “The siblings have a complicated dynamic as they track down the terrorizing worst of humanity,” reads a synopsis, “each with their attitude and skills.” Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Lost writer Paul Zbyszewski will take the reins of that show.
