HBO Max orders 2 seasons of Merrick & Treves

Archer creatives Adam Reed, Casey Willis, and Lucky Yates just got the green light for two seasons of a new animated comedy, titled Merrick & Treves. Reed, Willis, and Yates co-created the half-hour series and will also serve as executive producers. The trio shared their enthusiasm for the project in a very on-brand statement in the press release. “The three of us are beyond excited to have found a home for Merrick & Treves at HBO. We can’t wait to start working with the creative team behind so many of our favorite shows. It’s actually quite daunting, now that we think about it. Like, holy shit, y’all. HBO.” Reed, Willis, and Yates have the creds to back up a two-season order of a new series. They were all previously involved in FX’s popular adult animated series Archer, which ran for 14 seasons. On Archer, Reed served as the creator, writer, executive producer, and voice actor; Willis served as an executive producer and voice actor on a few episodes; and Yates voiced Dr. Krieger. Before Archer, they all worked together on the two-season Adult Swim series Frisky Dingo.

“Adam, Casey, and Lucky are exceptional comedic talents whom we have admired for years. We couldn’t be more excited to team up with them to bring the wholly original Merrick & Treves to HBO audiences,” said Amy Gravitt, executive VP of HBO programming and head of HBO and HBO Max comedy series. Based on the synopsis, Merrick & Treves sounds like a time-traveling adventure. The official synopsis reads: “Set inside Queen Victoria’s top secret Royal Temporal Constabulary, Merrick & Treves follows a team of unlikely heroes as they voyage back and forth through time in an effort to stop Jack the Ripper.”

There’s no word yet on a release date since the show is still in the early stages.
