Not everyone who suffers a series of great tragedies in their life becomes Batman, as evidenced by this trailer for Michael Cuesta’s American Assassin. When this kid’s parents died and his girlfriend was killed in a terrorist attack, he didn’t become Batman, he joined up with a CIA black ops team so he could learn how to be an expert killer from a guy who actually used to be Batman—in a different movie, not in this movie. The film stars Dylan O’Brien as the eponymous assassin from America, with Michael Keaton playing his mentor and Taylor Kitsch playing a mysterious villain who is up to some bad stuff. The movie looks like a Bourne sequel without all of the baggage, and also it has Michael Keaton bringing his usual Keaton energy.
American Assassin will be in theaters in September.
