Hereditary's Milly Shapiro is still mad they didn't let her keep her own severed head

Of the various weird little pop culture obsessions that kick around in our brains on a daily basis, we’ll confess that one of the weirdest is wondering what happens to fake corpses from movie sets. There are, after all, a lot of props made, in various horror and action movies, that are meant to represent some famous actor or another’s mortal remains—to the point that, a few years back, we were delighted to learn that Dwayne Johnson has re-used his old movie corpses on at least one occasion for another production. So bless the Redditor who recently asked Hereditary star Milly Shapiro (currently stumping for her new Shudder movie Hallowarrior via an AMA) about whatever happened to the version of her own head that figures so prominently in some of the Ari Aster movie’s most memorable scenes.

Tragically for Shapiro, but probably not for her various dinner guests, she reveals that someone else on the movie’s set got to the poor, abused head of young Charlie Graham before she could. “God, I wanted to keep it so bad,” Shapiro says in response to the question, saying she’d cooked up a plot to keep the prop on her dining room table in a fruit bowl. “I had this whole bit planned,” she said, before revealing that, sadly, when she recruited an unnamed someone to “steal” the head for her, it had already been yoinked by someone else. “I don’t know where it is!” she shouts in the AMA, which is, we have to admit, a pretty unsettling thing for someone to say about a pretty good model of their own decapitated dome. (We can only hope it’s floating out in the world somewhere, perhaps as part of the world’s most traumatizing “School Zone, slow down” display.)

Elsewhere in the AMA, the Tony Honoree talks about returning to film after several years away, and discussing, with Aster, the practicalities of playing a character like Charlie—including how much the character may have actually known about the scheming happening in the background of the 2018 horror hit’s plot.
