Netflix is giving Disenchantment 20 more episodes to get more enchanting
Despite a rocky start, we mostly came around on Disenchantment, Netflix’s new animated series from Simpsons creator Matt Groening. Still, the magic never quite manifested for many of its viewers, who the streaming giant is really hoping will choose to stick with the story. Entertainment Weekly reports they’ve just granted it 20 more episodes, which ensures it will air through at least 2021.
The surprisingly dour finale with which we were left earlier this year was only a mid-season finale, with the second part of its first season set for release next year. Season two will opt for a similar strategy, with the first part airing in 2020 and the second the following year.
“We’re excited to continue this epic journey with Netflix,” Groening said in a statement. “Stay tuned for more cranked-up suspense, infuriating plot twists, and beloved characters getting knocked off.”
Disenchantment aims to subvert traditional takes on the medieval fantasy, with Abbi Jacobson’s alcoholic Princess Bean joining forces with Elfo the elf (Nat Faxon) and a demon named Luci (Eric Andre) to navigate the twisted Dreamland. Futurama and Simpsons vets John DiMaggio, Billy West, Tress MacNeille, and David Herman lend their voices—as does the incomparable Matt Berry, who voices a pig.
