U2 to manifest in millions of homes this Thanksgiving

Once again, U2 will beam its music into thousands of homes, whether customers like it or not. We kid, sort of—the band is performing during Netflix’s inaugural “Thanksgiving Eve” football game, which will see the Green Bay Packers take on the Los Angeles Rams at Sofi Stadium on Wednesday, November 25 at 8 ET. Of course, this isn’t U2’s first halftime rodeo—they memorably performed at the Super Bowl in 2002, with a set that included a tribute to the victims of 9/11. As Ted Sarandos says in a press release, “[T]hey don’t just perform, they deliver iconic moments audiences remember forever. We’re thrilled that they’ll bring that same magic to the NFL stage on Netflix. It’s going to be an unforgettable night for football fans and Netflix members worldwide.”

Netflix has been getting into the live sports-on-holidays game for a while, having Beyoncé perform at its 2024 Christmas game, with Snoop Dogg performing at the same game last year. No word yet on who might headline that game this year. But beyond the sports, Netflix has also been embracing putting its most major releases on holidays, banking that entire families will want to watch new Stranger Things on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Eve in 2025. This year’s Thanksgiving offering will be season 2 of The Hunting Wives, which is neither especially family-friendly nor does it really have much in common with U2. We look forward to the year when corporate synergy brings us the Hunting Wives themselves as the halftime entertainment for Netflix’s Christmas game.
