Paul Feig says the new Ghostbusters is inspired by The Walking Dead
When director Paul Feig says his new Ghostbusters movie will be scarier than the original, he means it. As a guest on AMC’s Talking Dead Sunday night, he revealed that he is “very inspired” by The Walking Dead after dancing around a question about what connection the new Ghostbusters might have to zombies. Shockingly, he wasn’t even referring to Carl’s horrible hat or post-apocalyptic rap game. He actually wants to bring some of the show’s horror aspects into his all-female Ghostbusters reboot, saying, “What I love is how they play with the danger, they play with the scariness, but also the idea that it’s always about gauntlet run. And that’s something, an element I want to bring to this Ghostbusters reboot.” Making Chris Hardwick and AMC executives squeal with delight off camera, he then went a step further and said the words, “I really feed off of The Walking Dead,” out loud.
The reboot stars Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones—all queens of comedy in their own right—so it should be interesting to see how Feig melds their humor with legitimately terrifying scenes. (In related news, once Dan Aykroyd learned of this new development, he probably started Googling zombie makeup and getting Bill Murray’s voicemail for the 17th time that day.) Sony currently has the film scheduled for a July 22, 2016 release.
