Paul Giamatti to take another horrifying vacation in Boutique from Lodge 49 creator

Scream king Paul Giamatti has booked yet another terrifying vacation. After signing up to star in Eli Roth’s Hostel TV series, per Deadline, Giamatti is reuniting with Lodge 49 creator Jim Gavin for Gavin’s directorial debut, Boutique, a new horror film about one man’s awful trip to the English town that inspired his favorite reclusive author’s work. With a mix of Wicker Man-esque folk horror and the profound hope that Giamatti is playing an ornery Holdovers-esque snob, the film follows Giamatti’s American abroad as he falls in with the murderous secret society running the quaint seaside village.

Giamatti and Gavin are no strangers. The actor executive-produced Gavin’s wonderful two-season series, Lodge 49, another secret-society story, which ended in 2019. On the show, Giamatti also played L. Marvin Metz, the show’s L. Ron Hubbard analog. Since Lodge 49’s series finale, Gavin made the sci-fi series Moonhaven, which ran for six episodes in 2022.

“I’m crazy excited to be a part of this project and for Touchy Feely to be working with XYZ,” Giamatti said in a statement. “Scary, funny, bizarre, strangely moving, it’s one of the best scripts I’ve ever read by one of the most talented guys I know, Jim Gavin!”

Giamatti is obviously feeling very inspired by vacation-based horror these days. Last July, he was announced as the star of a TV series based on the Hostel films, written, directed, and executive-produced by Roth, for Peacock. It goes without saying that fans of Giamatti screaming are going to be eating well in the near future, but what’s it going to take to get him on The White Lotus?
