Pokémon: Wild Card finally integrates its wildly popular and lucrative trading card game into the Pocket Monster's animated canon.

Nary a day goes by without hearing from business reporters and your 13-year-old nephew alike about Pokémon cards. Did you know some of these things, especially the shadowless cards, are worth a lot of money? Follow-up question: Isn’t it great that Logan Paul found a new way to make $16 million? Anyway, the Pokémon Company thinks so, and it’s finding new ways to integrate its wildly popular and unbelievably lucrative Trading Card Game into its other properties. Enter: Pokémon: Wild Card, the first Pokémon movie to feature a TCG player. 

Wild Card marks the first Pokémon movie in seven years. The last one arrived in December 2020 and brought the series back to its roots, with Ash Ketchum and Pikachu attempting to catch ’em all in 2D, rather than the CGI used for Mewtwo Strikes Back—Evolution, a remake of Pokémon: The First Movie. Unlike either entry, the new movie will follow a card player “battling and striving to be a champion,” according to company president and CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara. The movie is “coming in 2027 and beyond,” so get ready for more card collectors challenging Geodudes in animated adventures.
