Kanan is all grown up. Starz’s Power Book III: Raising Kanan will officially end with its upcoming fifth season, The Hollywood Reporter reports. But while fans may be sad to see the series—a prequel to 2014’s original Power—go, showrunner Sascha Penn was given an increasingly rare gift by the network. “It was always my intention that Raising Kanan would run for five seasons, and thanks to my friends and partners at Starz and Lionsgate, as well as the incredible cast, crew and writing staff, I’ve been able to tell the entirety of the story I set out to tell way back in 2019,” he said.

That said, there are still some major shakeups in store for season five, including the addition of Shameik Moore as Branford ‘Breeze’ Frady. Breeze is a name original Power fans will be familiar with from the flagship series. While he had never been featured on screen until last night, the mysterious drug kingpin from Queens has been hovering around the edges of the narrative for years. In the original series, we learn that Breeze employed a young Kanan, and fans finally got to see that meeting, set up by Breeze’s aunt and uncle Snaps (Wendell Pierce) and Pop (Erika Woods), in the prequel series.

“The Power Universe fans have been patiently anticipating this moment, and I’m honored to step into the iconic role of Breeze,” Moore said in a statement. “I jumped into a story that is already alive with such strong characters, but it was a fun challenge to find Breeze’s unique identity, and I can’t wait for fans to see how Breeze will shift dynamics in the story. It’s gonna be a wild ride.”

Power Book III: Raising Kanan stars MeKai Curtis as a young version of the character originally played by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson in Power. The prequel series also stars Patina Miller, London Brown, Malcolm Mays, Joey Bada$$, and more. “There is still an exceptionally intense and action-packed season left for the viewers to experience,” Penn said. “I assure you that the stakes for Kanan and the entire Thomas family have never been higher.”
