Prime Video's leaky ship released Jason Statham's boat thriller, Mutiny, two days early

Amazon's Prime Video joins Netflix and X as the latest tech company to botch a major studio release with self-inflicted leaks.

Prime Video's leaky ship released Jason Statham's boat thriller, Mutiny, two days early

When moviegoers want to see a major studio release for free, they head to X, the Everything App. Elon Musk’s unmoderated cesspool of Nazis, bots, and brain-poisoned power users has been devaluing the hard work of major studios since the Earth’s richest and most divorced posting addict took over in 2022. More recently, two days after The Odyssey bowed in theaters, it leaked on X, where Universal continues to advertise despite the site’s owner’s well-documented animus against the adaptation. The blockbuster racked up millions of views before being struck down, as Musk continues to wield unmitigated power over Hollywood brass. Not to be outdone, Netflix simply lost an unreleased Nicolas Cage movie, Fortitude, after thieves raided its internal servers. The film’s producers have since sued the streamer for $100 million. All is to say, the most powerful and wealthiest tech behemoths on Earth suck at policing piracy, and we’ll add Prime Video to the list after the streamer leaked the upcoming Jason Statham boat thriller, Mutiny, for about an hour this morning.

This is per The Verge, which verified that “all 1 hour and 35 minutes of the movie was available to watch on Amazon’s streaming platform” this morning. It has since been labeled “unavailable,” a relief considering Mutiny is slated to be released “exclusively in theaters” this Friday. Neither Amazon, Mutiny‘s production companies, Punch Palace Production and MadRiver Production, nor its distributor, Lionsgate, have commented on the leak.

We hesitate to make the claim because the field is so crowded, but this is yet another example of how careless all these tech companies are and have been with Hollywood’s wares. Why studios tolerate it is bizarre. They certainly wouldn’t allow their moviegoers to do this. We’ll see if anyone other than the producers of Fortitude will ever stand up to these so-called platforms and stop these self-inflicted leaks.
