Quicksand announces tour, completes the Walter Schreifels reunion triumvirate
The missing piece of the Walter Schreifels reunion puzzle has at last fallen into place: Quicksand, the seminal post-hardcore band Schreifels led in the early ’90s, has announced a tour following a handful of reunion gigs, according to Exclaim.
For years, Schreifels seemed content to move on from his bands just before they really took off. In the ’80s, it was his hardcore band Gorilla Biscuits. In the early ’90s, it was Quicksand. Around the millennium, it happened again with Rival Schools. At least Gorilla Biscuits and Quicksand went on to achieve “influential but unheralded” status.
But in 2005, a Gorilla Biscuits one-off reunion eventually grew into tours. A few years later, Rival Schools followed suit. That left Quicksand as the final holdout, and with good reason—the band attempted to reunite in the late ’90s, but old tensions sunk it.
No more, apparently. The band’s mostly sticking to the coasts on the tour, but stopping in the Midwest for a few shows. The schedule is below. In the meantime: Slip or Manic Compression?
