Readers' picks for June… and July!
The polls have closed here at Wrapped Up In Books, and they told a pretty definitive story. With more than 400 people voting, half the vote was split between David Mitchell's Cloud Atlas and Philip K. Dick's A Scanner Darkly. And those two books were within a couple of percentage points of each other, meaning they both had a pretty hefty fandom.
Add in the fact that we're excited about both of them too, and we figured "What the hell—let's just do them both!" So starting June 28, we'll begin discussing A Scanner Darkly, and we'll save the heftier Cloud Atlas to be our July pick, with discussions launching July 26. As always, we're looking forward to it.
For the curious, here's how the reader poll panned out. Given how closely The Blind Assassin followed the other two, we'll have to give it serious consideration for next time.
David Mitchell, Cloud Atlas 26.0%
Philip K. Dick, A Scanner Darkly 24.0%
Margaret Atwood, The Blind Assassin 23.0%
Sam Lipsyte, Home Land 11.0%
Michael Ondtdaaje, Coming Through Slaughter 6.0%
John Wray, Lowboy 4.0%
Ben Marcus, Notable American Women 3.0%
T. Coraghessan Boyle, Drop City 3.0%
