Revealed! The Michael Haneke Twitter account was totz fake lulz #teamhaneke
The Goddamn genius behind the fake Michael Haneke Twitter account has been revealed to be Shortlist.com deputy editor Benjamin Lee, who gave an interview about his experience to The Guardian. We're just as sick as you are of "wacky" Twitter accounts, but @Michael_Haneke was a brilliant niche joke executed very, very well. Haneke is the Austrian director behind such dour, difficult, maddeningly great films as Code Unknown, Cache, and The White Ribbon, and he finally got Hollywood's attention with last year's Amour (a cheery little picture about the inevitable march toward death), which won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film. Lee posited Haneke's Twitter personality as something akin to a 13-year-old's, dissing other directors and celebrating his own success with lots and lots of spelling errors. Example: "note 4 all othr winnurs 2nite: jessikuh chastayns doesnt find it funny if u pretend ur oscar is ur penis lol." Lee has decided to stop the account, which proves once again that he's above the Internet fray; another writer might've pursued a sitcom deal for Shit Michael Haneke Says.
