Rick And Morty gets a premiere date and a Simpsons couch gag

Adult Swim’s Rick And Morty—created by Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland—is a great show and a big hit. It’s so great and big, in fact, that we think it’s safe to assume that some people consider it their favorite cartoon show that’s currently on the air. It’s fitting, then, that Rick And Morty has teamed up with The Simpsons—some people’s favorite cartoon show from, oh, 10-15 years ago—to help promote its upcoming second season. To do this, The Simpsons has handed over control of the couch gag for this Sunday’s season finale to Rick And Morty, with the titular young boy and his mad scientist grandfather literally crashing into the Simpsons’ living room.

In a press release, Matt Groening said, “This couch gag plays like a full-fledged mini-episode,” and that, “it’s going to be a real treat for fans of The Simpsons, fans of Rick And Morty, and fans of animated belching.” Meanwhile, Roiland is so excited about this partnership that he thinks he might be living in a computer simulation, using his space in the press release to tell people to “look up simulation theory” because “that would explain how this happened.”

Rick And Morty will be returning to Adult Swim for more dimension-hopping adventures on July 26, and—as we mentioned before—the Rick And Morty couch gag will be attached to this Sunday’s episode of The Simpsons. However, if you’re one of the millions of Americans who has stopped watching The Simpsons solely so you can tell people on the internet that you don’t watch The Simpsons, we’ve embedded a video of the whole couch gag below. Also, it seems weird to talk about The Simpsons today without acknowledging Harry Shearer (especially since he pops up in this), so consider this us acknowledging that whole thing.
