Riverdale: The Re-Skeeting
Here’s what’s up in the world of TV for Thursday, March 9. All times are Eastern.
Top pick
Riverdale (The CW, 8 p.m.): As part of its cheeky ode to movie and TV teens of the past, The CW’s Archie adaptation loves casting yesterday’s heartthrobs and girls next door as today’s moms and dads. Fred Andrews looks a lot less link Frank Nelson these days and more like Dylan McKay; Twin Peaks’ once-and-future Shelly, Mädchen Amick, has gone from serving up damn good coffee (and hot, too!) at the Double R to serving up strict rules and discipline to young Betty Cooper. Scream skeez Skeet Ulrich previously turned up as Jughead’s father, and he returns to that role tonight, making trouble for Mr. Andrews while the kids continue the search for Betty’s sister. Meanwhile, James Van Der Beek reads about Riverdale’s second-season renewal and waits patiently for the phone to ring.
Regular coverage
Grey’s Anatomy (ABC, 8 p.m.)
Scandal (ABC, 9 p.m.)
Colony (USA, 10 p.m.)
Wild card
The Catch (ABC, 10 p.m.): This TGIT series is out of the TV Club rotation for the time being, and from what we understand, the cat-and-mouse games of season one are taking a hard left turn into territory that practically reboots the series as a romantic comedy. If that doesn’t work out, maybe stars Mireille Enos and Peter Krause can make a future in Riverdale based on their experience, respectively on The Killing and a three-episode arc of Beverly Hills, 90210.
