Sam Coffey And The Iron Lungs channel The Clash on “Talk 2 Her”
On July 28 Burger Records—Dine Alone Records in Canada—will release the latest record from Sam Coffey And The Iron Lungs, another self-titled affair from the Toronto band. Today, The A.V. Club is streaming “Talk 2 Her,” a bouncy song that speaks to Coffey’s classic rock heart. He describes the song succinctly, saying “It sounds like The Clash playing ‘Start Me Up,’“ and it does exactly that, riffing in a way that’s not all that far off from Diarrhea Planet. Of the song’s inspiration, Coffey had this to say:
A mean song to walk fast to, “Talk 2 Her” is about keeping the line of communication open and staying true. To me it’s a song about honesty. No matter what the issue or how much it might influence other aspects of your life, you need to stay true to yourself and those you love.
