New trailer for Slayground amps up the tension

After a pretty rockin’ teaser and a countdown to October 20 on the site runlikehell.com (hey, that’s today!), A24 has released a full trailer for Slayground. The new horror film, a follow-up to 2024’s Rebel Ridge starring DC’s new Green Lantern Aaron Pierre and Don Johnson, marks director Jeremy Saulnier’s big return to horror, harkening back to his 2007 horror-comedy debut Murder Party (co-starring Macon Blair, who can be seen here hyping up a crowd for the slays to come). That said, this tension-riddled trailer is careful about giving the whole game away, both in tone and story, though we can glean from it a few plot details.

The film will follow Michael (Gotham and Saturday Night‘s Cory Michael Smith), who, through the hypnotic suggestions of a crystal-clutching acquaintance (Imogen Poots), recalls “October ’24,” a date linked to “the Hangman murders,” a “mass-casualty event” that rocked a small community during the Samhain season not so long ago. No doubt these murders, for which Michael appears to have been a suspect, had much to do with the closing of the eponymous Slayground, an especially intense interactive haunting attraction, before it was presumably shut down (what with a bona fide serial killer running loose through town and whatnot). Smith and Poots are joined by Chase Sui Wonders (I Want Your Sex), Sophie Wilde (Talk To Me), James Badge Dale (The Empty Man), Stephen Root (Get Out), Imogen Poots (Green Room), Matty Matheson (The Bear), and Young Mazino (Beef).
