Somebody Somewhere creators would definitely be down for more

Somebody could still be out there somewhere, you know? Preferably that somebody would be Bridget Everett, and preferably the somewhere would be HBO. The Peabody Award-winning series concluded last year after three seasons, but creators Hannah Bos and Paul Thureen can still imagine a future for the show out there somewhere… someday.

In an interview with The A.V. Club‘s Drew Gillis on the 2025 WGA Awards red carpet, Bos hinted that the decision to end the show after the third season was not a creative one. However, “you always write every episode and every end of a season thinking it might be your last, and we did that and we’re so happy with how it landed,” she said. Thureen agreed. “A show like us, it’s a miracle to get three seasons. That said, we would keep on doing it for 7, 8, or 9 seasons,” he said. “These characters live on for us, and I think that it’s always like a slice of life, and a moment in time, and so we’re proud of this moment and I think that we’d love an opportunity to come back to them in the future.” Bos added: “And maybe we will.”

Hello, are there any networks listening? There’s a critically acclaimed cult favorite up for grabs! But if it’s not Somebody Somewhere, Bos and Thureen would love to get the gang back together for something new. “We love working with the Chicago crews, we’d love to do another show in Chicago. We love writing and working and creating with Bridget, we would work with her forever, and the cast is incredible,” Thureen gushed. And HBO is included among that list: “HBO believed in us, and they let us make the show, and they let us make the show we wanted to make, and they were really incredible, so we were really lucky. And we would love to do it with them again,” Bos said.

Reflecting on the three-season run, Bos shared, “I’m just so proud of what we did. I feel like it’s a very special show. It doesn’t look like every other show. It doesn’t sound like every other show. It doesn’t feel like every other show. So I’m just so happy that we did break through with the word of mouth. I feel like we have such wonderful fans, and we have such a wonderful community making the show. The spirit of the show that you see in the show is actually on set as well. So I hope people get to feel that at home, because people just telling people [to watch] really made a difference on the show.”

“It was definitely slow growth and word of mouth, but I think we could tell from interactions with people that it wasn’t just that they loved the show, it’s that it really meant something to them, and it was really important to them, and I think that it’s a stamp of approval for [continuing to make] shows like that,” Thureen added. “Like, right now people are like, ‘This show wouldn’t get made today!’ And we’re like, ‘This show wouldn’t have gotten made 6 years ago when it got greenlit by HBO, but they did.’ … You just need one person to believe in you, and we’re so proud of it.”

And by the way, if you missed Somebody Somewhere while it was airing, now is as good a time as any to tune in, “because the show is more poignant than ever,” Bos said.
