Someone replaced the music from Cruising with Super Mario World’s soundtrack
Sometimes there is no explanation. Sometimes someone, in this case YouTube user Vinnie Massimino, simply watches William Friedkin’s controversial 1980 film Cruising and thinks “Wouldn’t this be better with chiptune music from a Super Mario game?” And while surely everyone has had those thoughts before, only Massimino dared to make them a reality.
By replacing the music of a seedy gay club with Super Mario World’s “Valley Of Bowser,” the scene still has a good beat for Al Pacino to awkwardly dance to while maintaining some menace due to the music Koji Kondo wrote for a giant turtle/dinosaur/dragon monster. It’s hard to know why this exists, but isn’t the world a little bit better for it in the end?
