Many filmgoers were surprised at how touching the final sendoff for Paul Walker was at the end of Furious 7. Having Vin Diesel narrate a tribute to his movie brother over shots of the two cavorting in their muscle cars proved effectively moving. Now that same formula has been used for two of Star Wars’ most renowned racers, as Sebulba bids his friend Anakin a fond farewell.
Created by Practical Folks, the clip below is a funny mashup of the somber end of Furious 7 with the otherwise kind of pointless and annoying pod race section of Star Wars: Episode I—The Phantom Menace. Sebulba takes the wistful Vin Diesel/Dom Toretto role, saying goodbye to the fellow pod racer that always challenged him and, in many ways, made him a better racer than he ever could have been alone. It’s a simple premise but effectively done and may even move some people who never thought Sebulba capable of emoting much of anything. It’s also not a bad pitch for Sebulba to get his own anthology series surrounded by colorful folks as he takes on various high-stakes risks that all have to involve pod racers in some capacity.
