There’s always the chance a band will hate your rendition of their chart-topping song, but that’s a chance Weezer was willing to take with their Teal Album, a covers collection that basically filtered a bunch of classics through Rivers Cuomo’s guitar. That doesn’t seem to bother the artists, though, who appear to have embraced Weezer’s covers. Toto, for example, paid it forward by covering Weezer’s “Hash Pipe,” while Tears for Fears joined Weezer on Monday night’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! for a rendition of “Everybody Wants to Rule the World.”
Considering Weezer’s cover isn’t all that different from the original, the boys from Tears From Fears didn’t need to do much to recapture the more subdued nature of their original.
