A few weeks ago, the internet discovered Spanish Temptation Island, and with it, Montoya. In a scene that reminded at least one A.V. Club staffer of the Twilight movies, the poor man screamed, tore at his clothes, and literally ran into the sea when he learned that his girlfriend was cheating on him via being forced to watch theentire thing on an iPad. It seemed like the worst day of his life, but then it happened again… and again. (Warning: these scenes are very NSFW.)
The U.S. may not have a Montoya of its own—it’s hard to imagine finding another contestant of his caliber anywhere, quite frankly—but it does have Temptation Island. Netflix just debuted the trailer for its first season of the salacious reality show, and given the circumstances, it’s pretty easy to understand why Montoya entered his dark night of the soul. Temptation Island is more of a cheating show than a dating show. For some reason, four pre-existing couples sign up to go on TV and be “tested.” They’re split up, and the women live in one house with a bunch of sexy men, while the men live in another with their own cadre of sexy women. The singles are “on this island for one reason—to tempt you,” warns host Mark L. Wahlberg. (No, not that one.) Let the crash outs begin.
Temptation Island has been tearing U.S. couples apart since 2001, but this is the first season in which Netflix is liable. (The show originally aired on Fox, before moving to USA.) There are 10 episodes of romantic drama ahead, so strap in. It all goes down March 12.
