Last night’s season finale of The Last Of Us was a bit of a bloodbath, and one that probably wasn’t any easier for the video game fans who already had an idea of what was coming. In the final moments of the episode, Kaitlyn Dever’s Abby has Bella Ramsey’s Ellie pinned to the ground with a gun in her face. There is the sound of a shot as the screen cuts to black, and then cuts to Abby in Seattle three days prior. Abby’s POV over those three days will be the focal point of season 3 and maybe even beyond, as a fourth season is already up for consideration.

With so much more coming, perhaps it shouldn’t be surprising that some characters who are dead (or maybe dead) could return for what’s coming. Everyone invovled with the season has been extremely tight-lipped in their post-mortem interviews, but showrunner Craig Mazin did offer a decent tease. “All I can say is we haven’t seen the last of Kaitlyn Dever and we haven’t seen the last of Bella Ramsey,” Mazin says in a new interview with The Wrap. “And we haven’t seen the last of Isabela Merced and we haven’t even seen the last of a lot of people who are currently dead in the story.”

Of course, this was already happening to an extent this season. Pedro Pascal’s Joel was killed by Abby’s hand in this season’s second episode and still appeared up until the sixth. The way it sounds, we may even see him again whenever this prestige piece of TV decides to return.
