The X-Files appear to be closed
Fox bears more responsibility than most for broadcast TV’s ongoing revival mania, having initiated the most recent wave of short-term nostalgia programming with 24: Live Another Day and proving its commercial prospects with the highly rated 10th season of The X-Files. But that 11th season? Despite a noted uptick in quality, the ratings didn’t follow, and Gillian Anderson’s stated reluctance to continue on in the role of Dana Scully didn’t bode well for a potential 12th season. Today, in a conference call ahead of his network’s upfront presentation, Fox chairman Gary Newman made that outlook sound a little more bleak. As quoted by TV Live, Newman said “there are no plans to do another season at the moment.”
