When Philadelphia’s Thin Lips announced Riff Hard, its debut album that will be released on May 20 via Lame-O Records, it did so with a video that vocalist-guitarist Chrissy Tashjian described as a “homosexual Blink-182.” And while that doesn’t serve as a perfect reference point for “My Mouth Is Skinned Like An Apple”—which The A.V. Club is premiering below—it does feel like it’s equal parts pop and punk without feeling like a run of the mill pop-punk song. “My Mouth Is Skinned Like An Apple” sees Thin Lips making good on its record’s title, as Tashjian’s lays down a saccharine melody that the band distorts until it’s both heavy and harmonious.
