What's on TV this week — The Other Bennet Sister and Lord Of The Flies

Welcome to What’s On, our weekly roundup of notable shows. Here is what’s happening on TV from Sunday, May 3 to Saturday, May 9. All times are Eastern.

New this week

Lord Of The Flies (Netflix, Monday, 3 a.m., limited series premiere)

William Golding’s 1954 literary classic gets the television treatment with this four-part Netflix adaptation, an import from the BBC written by Adolescence co-creator Jack Thorne and directed by Marc Munden (Utopia, National Treasure). As on page, the dystopian drama centers on a group of English schoolboys—played by newcomers like Winston Sawyers, Lox Pratt, David McKenna and Ike Talbut, among others—who become desert-island castaways when their plane crashes into the Pacific in the early 1950s. Soon, a basic need for survival descends into brutal savagery and social hierarchy. Read The A.V. Club’s review on Monday.

The Other Bennet Sister (BritBot, Wednesday, 12 a.m., miniseries premiere)

Everybody knows Elizabeth Bennet—now get to know her younger and often-overlooked sister, Mary. Played by Ella Bruccoleri, the middle Bennet daughter gets her moment in the spotlight via this adaptation of the 2020 Janice Hadlow novel, itself a continuation of Jane Austen’s iconic Pride And Prejudice. With the other Bennet girls getting snatched up by eligible bachelors, Mary travels around England on a journey of self-discovery and romance. Ruth Jones, Richard E. Grant, Poppy Gilbert, and Indira Varma also star. The A.V. Club’s review will drop Wednesday.

The Terror: Devil In Silver (AMC+ and Shudder, Thursday, 3 a.m., season-three premiere)

The third installment of AMC’s The Terror horror anthology, Devil In Silver is based on creator Victor LaValle’s 2012 novel of the same name, with Dan Stevens starring as Pepper, a working-class man who is wrongfully committed to the dark and dire New Hyde Psychiatric Hospital. There, Pepper not only has to deal with sinister doctors and adversarial patients but also the supernatural forces thrumming throughout the institution. The six-episode season also features Judith Light, CCH Pounder, Aasif Mandvi, John Benjamin Hickey, and Stephen Root, with Ridley Scott signed on as an executive producer. Look out for The A.V. Club’s review on Thursday.

Amadeus (Starz, Friday, 8 p.m., miniseries premiere)

The White Lotus alum Will Sharpe dons the powdered wig and musical genius of a twentysomething Wolfgang “Amadeus” Mozart in this Starz limited series, which explores the prodigy’s less-than-historically accurate heated rivalry with respected court composer Antonio Salieri (Paul Bettany) in bustling 18th-century Vienna. As Amadeus juggles both professional triumphs and personal demons, Salieri grows increasingly envious, kicking off a decades-spanning obsession that threatens to consume both men. Check out The A.V. Club’s review on Friday.
