Looks like Chicago just lost one of its (fictitious) emergency response teams: USA has just canceled Sirens, the Denis Leary creation about a ragtag group of EMTs in the Second City. The network is reportedly recommitting to its drama programming, meaning the “characters” that remain “welcome” are bickering marrieds and Larry David wannabes and not wacky paramedics or hard-partying doctors.
Sirens was the opening salvo in USA’s original comedy foray, which included the Eliza Coupe vehicle Benched (for a time). Although the show was somewhat well received and had a loyal audience, it just didn’t build on its reputation or ratings after the first two seasons. This leaves Playing House as the last comedy standing at USA, but the network’s hedging its bets by rolling out season two on VOD before airing the episodes.
