Weekend Box Office: Girls rule
It was all about the laughs this weekend, with the funny gals and stoner dudes taking the top two spots at the American box office. The Tina Fey/Amy Pohler flick Baby Mama came out on top with $18.3 million, smoking the main competition, Harold And Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay, which still pulled a respectable $14.6 million. Meanwhile, Forgetting Sarah Marshall hung on at No. 4 with $11 million, narrowly bested by The Forbidden Kingdom's $11.2 million take. The erotic thriller Deception barely cracked the top 10 with $2.25 million, while the only other major-studio release of the weekend, Deal, was nowhere near it, grossing only $31,000 on 50 screens.
Overall, receipts were up from last year for the second weekend in a row, as we get ready to kick off summer movie season with Iron Man next week.
