What's on TV this week—VisionQuest ends and The Rings Of Power returns

Welcome to What’s On, our weekly roundup of notable shows. Here is what’s happening on TV from Sunday, November 8 to Saturday, November 14. All times are Eastern.

New this week

VisionQuest (Disney+, Tuesday, series finale) We’ve got ourselves a high-stakes showdown between a rebooted Vision (Paul Bettany) and Ultron (James Spader) in the series finale of this WandaVision spin-off. Entitled “Forever,” episode eight of the Marvel miniseries will also feature the much-anticipated reunion of the Maximoff family, with twin bros Billy/Wiccan (Joe Locke) and Tommy/Speed (Ruaridh Mollica) coming together to help save Vision. Catch The A.V. Club’s finale recap this Tuesday night.

The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power (Prime Video, Wednesday, season three premiere) Back into the legendarium of J.R.R. Tolkien land we go, with this epic fantasy prequel picking up five years after the events of season two, with Sauron (Charlie Vickers) and his army of angry orcs, dragons, and ringwraiths continuing to torture the good folks of Middle-earth as the Dark Lord works to create the One Ring and conquer the world. The surviving factions—Elves, Dwarves, Wizards, and Men alike—come together in desperate alliance. And speaking of wizards, Gandalf (Daniel Weyman) is fully embracing his identity as the grey wizard and turning his attention toward opposing a friend-turned-foe, the Dark Wizard (Ciarán Hinds). The first four episodes drop Wednesday—you’ll find The A.V. Club’s premiere recap that day, too.

The Body (Netflix, Wednesday, series premiere) Sex, drugs, and Catholic school—such is the focus of this supernatural-horror series, created by actor-turned-filmmaker Quinn Shephard (Blame, Not Okay). After a dance-team initiation goes very wrong, a group of teenage girls—played by Kristina Bogic, Sara Boustany, Geena Meszaros, Sofia Wylie, and Shirley Chen—begin experiencing prophetic visions that set off mass hysteria across their town. The eight-ep coming-of-age nightmare sounds like Yellowjackets meets Cruel Intentions meets The Crucible. Fun! Check out The A.V. Club’s take on the Netflix newcomer this Wednesday.

The Good Daughter (Peacock, Thursday, limited series premiere) Based on the 2017 bestselling novel by Will Trent author Karin Slaughter, this six-part thriller pairs together Rose Byrne and Meghann Fahy as estranged sisters Charlotte and Samantha Quinn, whose two-decade rift stems from a violent home invasion that led to the horrific death of their mother. When another attack threatens to splinter their hometown of Pikeville, GA, the siblings are forced back together to sift through painful memories and long-buried secrets as a new investigation unfolds. Brendan Gleeson, Olivia Williams, Harper Steele, Michael Dorman, Audrey Grace Marshall, and Drew Cheek also star. Look out for The A.V. Club’s series review on Thursday.

12 12 12 (Apple TV, Friday, series premiere) Jamie Dornan knows his way around a cat-and-mouse crime thriller—after all, he played the calculating serial killer hunted by Gillian Anderson’s detective superintendent for three seasons of The Fall. This heist drama has a similar setup, with Dornan as career criminal Paul Galvin and Anthony Mackie as disgraced FBI agent Jack Strickland, who is investigating a high-stakes bank vault robbery in Zurich. But the episode format gets a novel twist: Each installment cuts across three distinct timelines to recount the vault raid: 12 months of planning, a 12-hour robbery, and the 12 days of aftermath. (Get it?) Steal a read of The A.V. Club’s review on Thursday.
