What's on TV this week—Half Man, Stranger Things: Tales From '85, and Running Point

Welcome to What’s On, our weekly roundup of notable shows. Here is what’s happening on TV from Sunday, April 19 to Saturday, April 25. All times are Eastern.

New this week

Half Man (HBO, Thursday, 9 p.m., limited series premiere)

The man at the center of this HBO and BBC drama is Baby Reindeer’s Richard Gadd, who continues his multi-hyphenate streak as a writer, creator, and star. Gadd plays the fierce and volatile Ruben opposite Jamie Bell’s mild-mannered Niall, two close-as-brothers Scotsmen who reunite at a wedding after a turbulent time decades earlier. The A.V. Club will recap the six-part limited series.

Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 (Netflix, Thursday, 3 a.m., series premiere)

Thought we were done with the Upside Down? Netflix’s animated spin-off drops in on Hawkins favorites—Eleven, Mike, Dustin, Will, Lucas, Max, and the rest, although they’re voiced by different actors—between the events of the second and third seasons of the original series. Check out The A.V. Club’s review of the show on Thursday.

Running Point (Netflix, Thursday, 3 a.m., season two premiere)

It’s game on again for Kate Hudson’s Isla Gordon—the president of the Los Angeles Waves basketball team—and her chaotic brothers (played by Justin Theroux, Drew Tarver, and Scott MacArthur) in this sports comedy. Season two finds Isla juggling financial troubles, family power plays, board scrutiny, and public opinion all while trying to take her team to the playoffs. Additions to the cast this time around include Ray Romano, Ken Marino, Robert Townsend, and Richa Moorjani.

From (MGM+, Sunday, 9 p.m., season four premiere)

The mysteries continue in the fourth season of MGM+’s sci-fi-horror series. Is The Man In The Yellow Suit the entity that’s been controlling the Township this whole time? As residents get closer to the answers they’re desperate for, they have to deal with the dangerous consequences of their discoveries. The John Griffin-created show stars Harold Perrineau, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Eion Bailey, Hannah Cheramy, and Ricky He.

Criminal Record (Apple TV, Wednesday, 12 a.m., season two premiere)

Peter Capaldi and Cush Jumbo are back for a second round of Prime Video’s crime thriller, which sees DCI Daniel Hegarty and DS June Lenker investigating a fatal stabbing at a political rally and trying to prevent a far-right bomb plot in London. The show welcomes new cast members Dustin Demri-Burns, Luca Pasqualino, Luther Ford, Lyndsey Marshal, and Peter Sullivan.
