What's on TV this week—The American Revolution and Landman season 2

Welcome to What’s On, our weekly roundup of notable shows and films. Here is what’s happening on TV from Sunday, November 16 to Saturday, November 22. All times are Eastern.

New this week

Landman season two (Paramount+, Sunday, 3 a.m.)

Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton) is back for another season of Paramount+’s oil-slick drama Landman, juggling mounting pressures from M-Tex, Cami Miller (Demi Moore), his kin, and father (played by series newbie Sam Elliott). Look for The A.V. Club‘s recap of the season premiere on Sunday afternoon.

A Man On The Inside season two (Netflix, Thursday, 3 a.m.)

Charles Nieuwendyk trades retirement homes for college campuses in the second round of Mike Schur’s comedy, which stars Ted Danson as a retired professor who gets a new lease on life when he’s recruited to go undercover as a private investigator. The latest gig—tailing a mystery blackmailer who’s targeting the university president—brings forth a cast of academic suspects portrayed by Max Greenfield, David Strathairn, Michaela Conlin, Sam Huntington, and, yes, Mary Steenburgen. The A.V. Club’s review publishes Thursday.

The American Revolution (PBS, Sunday, 8 p.m.)

This six-part, 12-hour docuseries directed by Ken Burns, Sarah Botstein, and David Schmidt digs deep into the complicated founding of America, thoughtfully detailing both the democratic wins and devastating impact of the country’s early days. Check out The A.V. Club‘s rave review of the project

Train Dreams (Netflix, Friday, 3 a.m.)

This Clint Bentley-directed drama premiered at Sundance in January and has garnered praise for Joel Edgerton’s performance as railroad worker Robert Grainier, who’s contending with love (Felicity Jones plays his wife, Gladys), loss, and a rapidly changing America. Read The A.V. Club‘s review of this “ethereal, awestruck drama.”

Selena Y Los Dinos (Netflix, Friday, 3 a.m.)

Between her enduring music and a popular biopic with a star-making performance from Jennifer Lopez, the life and legacy of late Tejano superstar Selena Quintanilla is pretty well known. This new doc, which has never-before-seen footage and interviews with the performer’s family and bandmates, hopes to give her devotees even more to consider.
