Soon to overtake baseball as America’s favorite summer pastime, casting continues apace on X-Men: First Class, with Deadline reporting today that Oliver Platt has signed on to play a non-mutant role known only as The Man In Black. [Your Lost and/or Johnny Cash and/or Will Smith jokes go here.] Platt, who can currently be seen in Showtime’s The Big C, joins today’s other new addition, Rose Byrne, with the Damages actress playing the key part of Professor Xavier’s fellow scientist/girlfriend Dr. Moira MacTaggert. This leaves only a few remaining openings in the cast, including whoever will play Scott Summers/Cyclops, announcements of which we expect to be similarly parceled out over the next few weeks. And then summer will be over, my friends.
