9:30 PM CT 50 Years Of Foreign Films
Catherine Deneuve— clearly, the most well-preserved woman in movie history, right?— and Ken Watanabe introduce an assemblage of Guiseppe Tornatore's Salute To Foreign Film winners, and it starts wtih The Sea Inside?! Some lovely titles there, and some misfires, too (damn you, Mediterraneo), mostly from the past 20 years, when the committee process favored mediocrities. Still, all told this is a far more significant list of titles than all the Best Picture winners, and this category has only existed since La Strada in 1957.
